Seo Hong Seop founded the Designing Fashion Collective (DFC) in Seoul on March 27, 2017. The DFC brings together leading local Korean designers such as Young-Sook Choi (Step), Sun Yun (Goo), and a number of other design figures. The DFC will serve as a gathering ground for local and international designers and guests from the fashion industry, as well as an outlet for the latest trend and research findings. The DFC’s first project will be Seo Hong Seop’s solo retrospective exhibition, “SOHN, the Solo Designer,” which opens May 9 at the Seoul Design Gallery. It will feature vintage, original and handmade pieces as well as the latest clothing designs from his fashion brand, Fashion Republic. Through these historic and innovative works, Seo Hong Seop will provide an insight into the development of his work in the early years, giving a distinct sense of his unique character. Along with the “SOHN, the Solo Designer” retrospective, Seo Hong Seop will also be exhibiting his first solo collection, “Eye of the Blue Tiger,” on May 11. With its strong, simple shapes and shimmery silhouettes, the collection will challenge the current fashion landscape, changing the fashion scene in Korea. Meanwhile, Seo Hong Seop is preparing for the 14th Seoul International Fashion Week, which runs from May 19 to 26, by holding several events. In addition to the Fashion Republic booth at the exhibition space on K-Block in Jongno-Gu, Seo Hong Seop has also organized an exhibition, a fashion show, art performances, exhibitions, and a panel discussion, “The Quest for Contemporary Design.” “Masters of Design,” an exhibition of fine art pieces by prominent fashion designers, artists, and cultural figures, will run at the Fashion Republic exhibition space from May 19 to May 27.
